The sway of a dancer's hips may entrance you, but perhaps the tales of gold in a dragon's lair would seduce you. In this world, the wrong end of a pirate's cutlass or the maw of a sea serpent might spell a bitter end, but the arcane chants of a master sorcerer may yield a new beginning. Time has passed swiftly within the lands of Validon, to some, and to others slowly. It's changes have been for the better or to some the worst. None can truly judge that though except the Wards that watch quietly from above, awaiting something none below know of, with bated breath.

It has been a hundred-and-twenty seven years since the quakes that rocked Validon, that destroyed Ikym and sunk part of Karibek, that saw the Last Sovran vanish into the Raspian Sea, and the maelstrom that devoured Niala and Aviritia before the Wards returned to a frightened people. Change has come in massive ways for all lands within the Realm and yet more is to come.

The year is 1248, year of the Phoenix, and the lands, ruled by separate Royalty, instead of one, as they had been since the death of Sionan Ardite, are finding that many things have not changed in a way. Peace has yet to be found fully and wars are being waged within rather than without. Yet the Phoenix is a symbol of change, of rising from the ashes to be reborn, and brings hope to all that peace may yet be found...
