Welcome To Validon,
First of all please allow us to say thank you for having shown interest in our ever-growing roleplay community. It is always encouraging to those of us who have put in many hours to make this place better with each passing day.
Validon is a a Free-Form Roleplaying Community. We are an established group with years of OOC history and eons of IC history to build from. We are not a rank, dice, or experience points group. Characters develop according to their storyline and the ever-growing storylines of the realm. With time everything changes, shaping itself into a more defined and interesting being as seconds tick by, and Validon is not any different. Over its first course run from 2002 to 2004 it saw many changes to its IC story, and those who ran it at the time could not have been more pleased. It was a sad day when we had to close it due to many personal issues.
That is why it has found another run, a breath of life!, though the time period has shifted to coordinate with the fact that much OOC time had passed. In the short time of our re-open we began to experience how it could continue to evolve. Watching with anticipation as tales were woven to stimulate your mind. Members of Validon take a great deal of pride in the work and time put in here. We, as its leaders, take the time to listen and even consult our members. Many times have they helped us to further define a subject within the group.
Important fact: Validon is built by its players. Their suggestions, characters, storylines, and more have become to be the many pieces to our large puzzle. It is the players who have helped to further shape Validon into the wonderful community it is now.
We as the heads of the forums view our job here as a leader, guide, mediator, and coordinator of creativity. We are always open to suggested ideas from our members and if you present them to us we will do our best to accommodate. All we ask is that you respect the story currently built and the work put into it by looking over the details. From our members we expect only a few simple things of our members in how they handle themselves and their responsibility within this community:
Maturity. We are not babysitters and this is not preschool. Understand that if you join RoV then we expect that you are capable of behaving in a mature fashion. Though we do have our discipline guidelines there are certain areas where we do not step in, such as personal disputes between two members involving past/current issues. If it cannot be handled between the two members then we will step in simply as mediators. Remember that the rules are always on hand and our IMs/Email doors are always open.
Activity. Yes, I can understand how that is a dreaded word. Most equate it to 'having a job'. This is not true. Roleplay is not a job, but a past-time favored by many. We are writers with creative minds whom gather to weave interesting tales. The only thing that we ask is that as we put in the time and effort as leaders to review applications, approve accounts, keep updated member listings, and try to keep our members informed that in return you put in effort too. We have many avenues of play to offer and we encourage all of them. We do not have a strict activity policy though there are ones required of those owning businesses. A question has been asked many times by many roleplayers and roleplay owners over the years 'Why join a group if you do not intend to play?'. It is a good question and one that we ask you think over.
Our simple advice: Your storyline is what you make of it. If you are not playing then it will not go anywhere.
Onto the Leaders, you will not find them to be any of the following: power-mongering, uncooperative, unapproachable, or unfriendly. We do not play favorites and prescribe to cliques. We encourage the interaction of all members of Validon. Our purpose here is much the same as your own- to find a creative community in which to write and enjoy ourselves. Time is taken to respond to questions, keep members updated on IC and OOC happenings with the community, fulfill our roles as leaders, and to aid you in becoming part of our fold. In the last we ask only that you be patient as you merge with us due to the extensive time in which the group has been open. If you ever need to contact us our information can be found here: Positions & Credits.
We understand that it can be overwhelming at first, taking in the entirety of the realm's information. However, we promise it will get easier. Encouragement is always given to ask questions to clear up any confusion that you may be experiencing. All are welcome to join into storylines and develop their own. There are three continents and an island archipelago in Validon. Though you 'belong' to a specific land this does not mean you cannot explore or travel to others. We have many means by which to do so. It is merely asked that you play within reason of your character's ability to travel.
Validon, as stated previously, uses all methods possible to play: IM, Chat, Board, and Email. Though IMs and Chats tend to be used the most often. However, it is important to note that the message board is the lifeline for the group. Just by reading through our information you can see how immense the realm is and touch upon the detail that has been built into it. It is virtually impossible to know all that is happening without keeping up with the message boards. If you do not at least keep up with looking them over occasionally then you will fall behind on the occurrences within the realm.
We strongly encourage you to take advantage of all our avenues of play, including the board. We know it can seem monumental at first if you have never done board play, but are willing to work in aiding you to familiarize yourself with its use. Feel free to ask. Why do we suggest this? Though we do not force board play please understand that sometimes a realm large storyline or personal schedules do not always allow for avenues of play such as IMs or chats. It cannot be helped and this way storylines can continue to move even when this happens.
Most of the group's members are 18+. This is not to say that people under that age will not be admitted, though due to Proboard policy we ask you be 13+. Please be aware, however, that players here do write and interact in mature settings. If you feel uncomfortable with something then please do not view it, is all we ask. We expect that all members treat newcomers and guests to the storyline respectfully, and vice versa. Respect is a very important part of a well-functioning community. Any issues of concern should be brought to our attention immediately if they cannot be solved.
Thank you for visiting our wonderful realm, and we look forward to seeing your character. Remember that our chatrooms are guest friendly and non-members are allowed to play within the setting if they come upon one. Perhaps, after a bit, you will decide to stay with us for awhile and become a part of our community.
We, the Staff here at RoV, would like to welcome you to Validon and help you in getting started. Below are menus to aid you in easily finding information concerning our storyline. The Application is found under the Storyline Information section. If you have any questions please feel free to contact one of the admins through email.
Once you have been accepted, you will learn that certain information is member only. Please respect that fact and do not share it otherwise. Registration is to be done by character name after you have been accepted.
It is 1248, Year of the Phoenix, and change is upon Validon. Will you be part of it?
